SDABJ is thrilled to partner with Broadway San Diego’s Ben Vereen Awards on an exciting new opportunity for HIGH SCHOOL students interested in journalism. The National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards) is seeking two Student Reporters from around the country to travel to New York on Monday June 26 and cover the competition on social media on both the official Jimmy Awards channels and the student reporter’s personal channels. One applicant will be chosen by the SDABJ and nominated by the Ben Vereen Awards to the national student reporter competition by May 1, 2017.
Applicants should create a video up to 3 minutes in length showing or describing how they would uniquely cover The Jimmy Awards on social media. The videos must not include any performance footage; the content of the videos is otherwise up to the applicant.
Additional video guidelines for the applicant:
We want to see your personality shine in this video! Think of it as hosting a version of “MTV Cribs” or an audition video to be on a non-performance reality show. Your video should be entertaining while educating your followers about the Jimmy Awards.
From the submitted applicant videos, The Jimmy Awards will select up to 10 videos to upload to the official Facebook page for The Jimmy Awards.
The Jimmy Awards will select the two student reporters who will be invited to New York based on the content of the submission and the reach and engagement of their video on Facebook.
Round-trip airfare, overnight lodging for Sunday June 25 and Monday June 26, lunch and dinner on Monday June 26, and seats at the ceremony will be provided by The Jimmy Awards for the two selected student reporters plus their one chaperone each.
The two winning students will be selected and notified on or around June 1.
The deadline to apply is April 18, 2017.
